4-7 November 2021: Rise Up for Climate Justice in Taranaki
CANA is a co-host of this event – here are all the details!
Join us in Taranaki, the ‘energy centre’ of Aotearoa and a major industrial dairy region, to take direct action against major climate polluters and demand urgent, just transformation of government and big business.
We have no more time to waste! The international climate negotiations (COP26) will be happening then, and we want to be clear that if they don’t take the actions required to keep temperature rise to 1.5, then we will.
- Save the dates
- Share with friends
- Keep an eye on the Facebook event for more details, and,
- If you’re in Wellington, come along to Newtown Community Centre from 6-9 pm Thursday 21st October to find out more / meet people who are going / sort rides / get creative
We’re teaming up from across Aotearoa to hold four days of skill-sharing, wananga, networking, and non-violent direct actions with other concerned people from across Aotearoa. The 5th of November is the day colonial troops invaded Parihaka after 22 years of bloody war across the country for land and resources. A war that has never ended and links directly to ruling class oppression, white supremacy, extractivism and now global warming. The 6th of November is a Global Day of Action for climate justice.
Our demands are to:
• End extraction of fossil fuels
• Ban industrial fertiliser
• End dairy exports, and
• No false solutions (like hydrogen).
Rise Up for Climate Justice to halt global warming and transition to a regenerative, socially just world for all. Make plans to join us for this critically important event and help build the climate justice movement and deepen the conversation about causes and impacts of climate change and where real solutions exist. System change not climate change!
There will be accommodation available on marae and local campsites. Follow the Facebook event and website Rise Up for Climate Justice 4th-7th November for more details.

21-24 January 2022: CANA Summerfest 2022 in Gore
A decade ago, CANA held two Summer Festivals in Southland that were instrumental in preventing Solid Energy mining and burning 1.5 million tonnes of Southland lignite. Solid Energy is now on the slag heap of history – but coal mining in Southland isn’t over yet, and miners have been trying to expand existing mines and get permission for new ones.
We sent Solid Energy packing, and we can send this new wave of climate-destroying coal miners packing too!
Join us from Friday 21 Jan to Monday 24 Jan 2022 at Dolamore Park, close to Gore. It’s a camping ground in a native bush setting.
Please save the date and watch out for more details. Let us know on coalactionnetwork@gmail.com if you’re keen to join us.
