hi David
gosh I'm sorry it took so long to get to this. But natural gas is not the answer to the climate solution. Yur stats of burning coal compared with gas are about right. But what you're missing is the leakage from extraction, production and transport... there has been a lot of work done on these estimates in recent years, and this makes gas almost as bad as coal. Gas needs to be down to near-zero by 2050 to keep warming to 1.5˚C and this means we should be pivoting away from gas as much as we are from coal. We cannot afford to start investing in huge gas infrastructure that will last 40 years - because once those investments are made, the investors will want their return, and there's little likelihood of them being closed early. If they are, they will become stranded assets. ALL fossil fuels must go.

I applaud your push to eliminate coal, however your position on gas is incorrect. The reduction in CO2 gas versus coal is approximately 50% for bitumus and 85% for lignite. This is huge. Gas is indeed a transition fuel. In reality it is the only alternative. My fear is this push for total renewable, is that with no investment in natural gas, coal burning will be retained. This is what has happen to date in both NZ and Australia by ill conceived energy policies.
